There is a UNIX package called LIVES (LInux Video Editing System) which has been ported for windows use. Amongst its other tricks it will convert the format of files. Yes its free, like most non specific software should be, I use this program www.rivavx.com, althought it leave you a watermark print. But it%26#39;s free. You can convert any video format. AutoGK is my favourite freeware AVI converter. It only works on DVD files though. And you will still need to decrypt protected DVDs with something like DVD Decrypter or DVD Shrink before you can use it. There are several out there, all have their pros and cons.
