Wifi..., are wifi hotspots ever free?

I%26#39;ve looked into this a bit, but am still confused.

do you need to have a contract with a company to use a wifi hotspot that they%26#39;re hosting?

btw: please dont say "yes" or "no" i%26#39;d like to fully understand!

this would help me fully decide whether to get a TX or a T|T3; thanks!

Answers:

wifi hot spots are links to access Internet.

depending of the policy of the owner of the hot spot, that link can be accessed by you in certain conditions(free or not).

in many cases you%26#39;ll get an user name and a password(e.g.1. if you%26#39;ll stay in a hotel you%26#39;ll find this information at the desk. some hotels charges for Internet access, others not;2.in some cafeteria the access is free is you serve something from them;3.in public places like airports, universities...you can have free acces only to some local sites). conclusion: hot spots are in general links to the internet offered by different companies in order to provide an additional service to their customers. yes, but only in airports and other big travel-type buildings, but be careful, a test has shown that u get more viruses from wifi than u do from using ethernet A simple answer for you. It is free at Panera and at some McDonalds. There is a fee at Starbucks. Most airports have it for free but the service is usually pretty bad. Many small independant restaurants will have it for free. You can also try googling free Wifi and you will come up with a list of places, or even google including the city and state where you are looking.

The Palm Wifi card is not very good. Yes, there are free WiFi hot spots.

Go to JiWire and search for locations by city or zip. They indicate whether WiFi spots are charged or free. Usually public libraries that show up are usually free.
